Other diagnostic studies for thymoma include CT-guided core needle biopsy, CT-guided fine needle aspiration, mediastinoscopy, and videothoracoscopy.

- CT-guided core needle biopsy or CT-guided fine needle aspiration (FNA) should be performed to confirm the histological classification and the diagnosis of thymoma.
- CT-guided FNA has a higher sensitivity and specificity as well as less side effects than a core needle biopsy.
- Surgical biopsy should be avoided if thymoma is highly suspected based on clinical and radiological evaluation.
- Mediastinoscopy, videothoracoscopy (VATS), or a diagnostic and therapeutic en bloc thymectomy may also be considered.[1]
