Cardiac diseases in AIDS chest x ray

Chest X ray abnormalities in HIV infected patients are seen in presence of congestive cardiac failure and pericardial effusions. These include cardiomegaly and pulmonary congestion.

Chest x-ray findings are the same as those seen in congestive heart failure and pericardial effusion. These include:

• Kerley B lines or thickening of the interlobular septa
• Peribronchial cuffing
• Thickening of the fissures
• Cephalization
• Increased vascular markings
• Interstitial edema
• Pleural effusions
