Other diagnostic studies useful in diagnosing Farmer’s lung disease include Pulmonary function tests, Microscopy of bronchoalveolar lavage and rarely lung biopsy.

Pulmonary function tests show-

• Restrictive pattern
• Decreased diffusion capacity of lung
• Hypoxemia at rest or with exertion^[1]

In acute cases-

• little or no impairment of gas flow
• decreased compliance and V/Q imbalance leading to hypoxemia and impaired gas exchange.

In chronic cases-

• Increased compliance
• stiff lungs- restricted volume

Microscopy of broncho alveolar lavage shows- leukocytosis

Rarely, lung biopsy is done if diagnosis could not be made with other investigations and no other criteria is met. Trans bronchial biopsy is sufficient for the diagnosis.
