Osler's node

Osler’s nodes are painful, red, raised lesions on the finger pulps or the feet, indicative of subacute bacterial endocarditis.

They are named after Sir William Osler.

Osler’s nodes are caused by immune complex deposition.

10–25% of endocarditis patients will have Osler’s nodes.

In alphabetical order:

• Disseminated gonococcal infection
• Distal to infected arterial catheter
• Endocarditis
• Marantic endocarditis
• Systemic lupus erythematosus

• Roth’s spots (another sign of endocarditis)
